Chapters 9 and 10

Last one!!!

I'm very proud of you all for working so hard on this assignment. Now I want to know your thoughts about this quote:

"When [an allegory] succeeds in its literary purpose, it leaves us with a deep indefinable feeling of truth; and if it succeeds also, as Orwell set out to do, in a political as well as artistic purpose, it leaves us also with a feeling of rebelliousness against the truth revealed" (C.M. Woodhouse 1954).

1. In your opinion, did Orwell succeed in both purposes? What is the "truth" you got from this novel?

Remember- you don't have to write 150 words. Just a sentence or 2.

  2. I feel that Orwell succeed wiht both purposes, one of the truths that I got from this novel is the way that the Russian goverenment was treating their people. The book was not something that I would normally, but not one that I would pick up off the shelf and read.

  6. I believe that Orwell succeeded in making Animal Farm have a political and artistic purpose. In my opinion this book showed how communism in theory is a good concept. In application however, it doesn't work because of greed and differences in work ethic. Overall the book was an interesting artistic and political view of communism.

  7. I believe that Orwell did in fact succeed in trying to make Animal Farm have an artistic and political purpose. The way he compares the animals to important people in history makes for an interesting storyline and using animals made it more entertaining. I actually enjoyed reading this book.

  8. I believe that Orwell did succeed very much in trying to give Animal Farm and artistic and political purpose. Especially since he uses personification in the entire book. I enjoyed reading this book, and it did a very good job of demonstrating Communism in a different way.

  11. I think that Orwell succeeded in both a political and artistic purpose. His use of animals to represent real people was an artistic way of revealing the truth behind Stalin’s way of running a country. I personally enjoyed reading Animal Farm and would read it again someday.

  12. Whos the best?? Mrs. Meanix and Ms. Rock are the best!!! DUHHHHH!!!!!Sunday, November 29, 2009 at 5:15:00 PM PST

I believe Orwell suceeded in both purposes. I say that because in the artistic way, he made the animals relate to humans and had specific roles for them and in the political aspect the roles the animals played were able to be identified as humans we know of in our past and can see the similarities.

  13. I think that Orwell did a good job in creating a feeling of rebelion. He made the reader dislike the pigs and what they were doing to the other annimals, so it angered the reader. I didn't get a very clear sense of truth though.

  14. I think Orwell definitely succeeded in artistic and political ways. He painted the picture that communism could work but it would be tough to do because of the way people are. I liked this book, but it is not the typical book i would read. I would not have picked this myself but I'm glad I read it.

  15. yes orwell did succeed because he got everyone to think about the way other governments were working, like communism. He got to talk about controversial topics without naming people. He made us think about things that we don't really deal with, and he gave us a different view on things.
